Supporting Local Business

With the State’s current economic boom, attracting skilled labour and services has been difficult for industries, but not for the New Perth Bunbury Highway where the total workforce has exceeded 1200 people.

Involving local people in the construction of the highway was a key objective for Southern Gateway Alliance and one we are proud to say is being achieved.

Around 74% of our total workforce consists of people and business that live and operate within the Peel region. Their skills, expertise and local knowledge are helping to ensure we achieve the best outcomes for the project and meet our construction schedule.

The Alliance’s focus on expanding local capability and contributing to the region’s economic development has generated many significant contracts in the region. More than 300 contracts have been awarded to local companies, representing some $91.4 million dollars of local investment.

Such investment has enabled many suppliers to work close to home and expand their business providing further employment opportunities for local people.

By participating in the New Perth Bunbury Highway project, local people are helping to create their own legacy and connect their communities.
