Noise Walls
Construction of the New Perth Bunbury Highway, like many large infrastructure projects, may bring about a number of changes to your community. One of these changes may be the type of traffic that travels past your property and the impact this traffic will have on your surrounding environment.
Main Roads and Southern Gateway Alliance are working closely with the Department of Environment and Conservation to determine what measures will be required to reduce the impacts of noise from the New Perth Bunbury Highway.
As part of the planning for the project, noise modelling was undertaken and helped to identify the specific locations where noise mitigation measures will be required.
Generally, this mitigation will be in the form of a noise wall to protect adjacent properties from future traffic noise and ensure the noise levels experienced do not exceed the objectives set by the Department of Environment and Conservation.
The noise modelling considers factors such as the type and volume of traffic using the highway, road surface and profile, and adjacent land use. Typically where noise walls are being provided, the noise modelling has taken into consideration the volume of traffic that is not only expected to use the highway at the time of opening, but also the traffic predicted to do so in the year 2031.
The design details for the noise walls, including the exact location, height and type of construction material are still being considered by the Alliance and will be discussed with adjacent residents once this assessment is complete.
