Managing the Impacts
Given the size and scope of the project, it will not be possible to eliminate all of the impacts of construction on the community and environment. However, the Alliance will endeavour to minimise these impacts wherever possible and undertake the project in an environmentally sustainable manner.
Construction of the NPBH project has received environmental approval from both the State Government and the Commonwealth.
At a State level, the reservation for the NPBH was formally assessed by the WA Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) under the provisions of the WA Environmental Protection Act (1986) through a Public Environmental Review (PER). The project was subsequently granted environmental approval by the Minister for Environment and the road reservation was included in the Metropolitan Region Scheme.
At a Federal level, the project was also assessed under Part 8 of Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act 1999 for both its direct and consequential impacts and has been granted approval by the Minister for Heritage and Environment.
The Alliance is continuing to work collaboratively with the relevant environmental authorities to obtain the various permits and licences required for construction activities. The Alliance also works closely with local environmental authorities and interest groups to identify opportunities to minimise construction impacts.
